Here I have an antique solid silver shield shaped locket pendant. It features an engraved horses head with branches to the sides on the front and ivy leaves to the back. This reversible style was known as a day & night locket as you could swap the sides over when it came to changing in to your evening-wear. The horse side is quite lightly engraved, which made it extremely tricky to capture in the photos! The detail is finer in real life, than I could capture in the pics. There are no innards to this locket, but if you could the pics to the right size, they should stay put. As with many antique pieces, it’s unmarked but tests as solid silver. The main body of the locket (without the bale at the top) measures 3.0cm high and 2.2cm wide. With the bale, it’s total length is 3.7cm. It weighs 6.8 grams. Condition: Good uncleaned antique condition. Some minor dinks and pressure marks front and back, commensurate with its age. Snaps shut nicely and stays closed as it should. Just has the usual surface marks and tarnish to the silver which you’d expect on an antique item. International buyers PLEASE READ. Here I have an antique double sided solid silver locket pendant. It features a beautiful aesthetic period design of a heron with a garden bird flying overhead, and if you look closely there’s a little butterfly in the reeds to the side. On the other side is a lovely spray of flowers (forget-me-nots I think) amongst swirled decoration, with a laurel wreath design around the edge. These double sided lockets were known as day and night lockets as you could turn it around when you changed your clothes for dinner in the evening. It has a large bale at the top, and i nside, it contains the original little frames to hold the photos in place and a past owners photos of a mother and small children. As with many antique pieces, it unmarked but tests as solid silver. The main body of the locket (without the bale at the top) measures 4.5cm high and 3.6cm wide. With the bale, it’s total length is 6.1cm. It weighs 31.7 grams. Condition: Very good uncleaned antique condition. Hinge and closure work perfectly. Just has the usual surface marks and tarnish to the silver which you’d expect on an antique item. International buyers PLEASE READ. It’s double sided, what’s known as a day and night locket, as you could turn it round for a different look in the evening. The front is set with Persian turquoise cabochons in a diamond shaped design, with freshwater pearls in the centre and little flower shapes to the outside. The other side is set with flat-cut garnets and pearls, with further silver flowers between. The bale also features turquoise and pearls and it can turned so it sits at the front for both sides of the locket. Inside, the locket is gilded and there’s room for 2 pictures, behind the original glass slip covers and removable silver frames. It’s marked with Austro-Hungarian hallmark and maker’s stamp on the ring holding the bale. The main body of the locket (without the bale at the top) measures 3.2cm long. With the bale at the top, it’s total length is 4.3cm. It weighs 19.7 grams. Condition: Very good uncleaned antique condition. The hinge and closure work perfectly and it snaps shut nicely.
