Alexander Ritchie of Iona – Solid Silver Celtic Cross Pendant. The cross is fully hallmarked for Glasgow 1929 along with the AR Iona stamp. The Glasgow assay office was only used by Ritchie for a short period from around 1912 to 1930. It is in excellent condition with a beautiful patina – please see the pictures for an accurate representation of condition, front and back. Each arm of the cross is designed with celtic knotwork detail to a central scrolled boss. The dimensions across the arms are 60mm, or 74mm with the bail. It weighs 33g – just over a Troy oz. This cross is dated three years later, but has the benefit of a decorated bail instead of a plain one. This style of Ritchie cross – the Maltese/Celtic style rather than the Christian style cross is becoming increasingly scarce with very few of them appearing on the open market.
