Here I have an antique solid silver locket pendant. It features a gorgeous scene on the front from the Shakespeare play’As You Like It’. The play follows its heroine Rosalind as she flees persecution in her uncle’s court, accompanied by her cousin Celia to find safety and, eventually, love, in the Forest of Arden. If you look closely you’ll see her name carved into one of the trees in the background. The detail is absolutely wonderful, even better in real life than it appears in the photos. At the bottom of the scene, hidden within a rock is a diamond stamp which indicates that the design was registered in Britain on 8 Apr 1878 and it tests as solid silver throughout. Inside, it has room for 2 photos, behind their original little removable frames with the original glass cover in one side and a replacement plastic cover in the other. The main body of the locket (without the ring at the top but including the beaded edge) measures 5.1cm high and 4.1cm wide. With the bale at the top, it’s total length is 6.7cm. It weighs 21.3 grams. Condition: Very good uncleaned antique condition. The hinge and closure work perfectly. Just has the usual light surface marks and tarnish to the silver which you’d expect on an antique item.
