HUGE SOLID SILVER JFK MEMORIAL MEDALLION. OVER A HALF POUND! Reverse of the Medallion quotes: ASK NOT WHAT YOUR COUNTRY CAN DO FOR YOU. ASK WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY January 21, 1961. What great words from a great man, and how sad that we seem to have forgotten this important concept. Beautiful sterling silver proof medal commemorating the 25th anniversary of JFK’s inauguration. As with all proof coins and medallions, it has a brilliant mirror-like finish on the field, front and back. This is #909 of a limited edition of 5000 that was produced by The Franklin Mint and sculptured by Gilroy Roberts. 7.8 Troy ounces of PURE silver in the coin. 2 3/4 in diameter and a full 1/4th inch thick. It is a hand full and very very heavy feeling. However because Troy ounces are the measure of silver and a troy ounce weighs more than a standard ounce, and the fact that it’s sterling silver the actual silver content is 7.8 Oz. However no one in his right mind would melt down this magnificent and beautiful piece of History. I was 10 years old when JFK was assassinated and I remember it very well. Such a sad day in history. People may debate until the end of the country’s existence whether this was a conspiracy, I certainly have my ideas and think the investigation was whitewashed. I have cherished this fine piece for decades, I’m not sure when I originally got it about the time it went on sale in 1986. Still, of course this is a piece of history, minted by the famous Franklin Mint in 1986 – it is worth much, much more than the melt value. And of course a medallion of this rarity will continue to appreciate handsomely! There’s only one other for sale anywhere that I could find – and it’s more expensive. No PO boxes please! Please note: I will be away at times throughout the year, latter March 2025.
