Beautiful large white enamel dial, which is very clear with black Arabic numerals, split minutes around the edge of the dial with a black diamond marking at quarter hour intervals. The dial is signed J. Benson himself made watches for the Royal family and Queen Victoria. In the bottom of the dial is written: Swiss Made. The dial has sunken second subsidiary, and gold coloured hour, minute and second hands. The dial and the hands are in excellent condition with no cracks or chips. An attractive solid silver plain case. All the covers and including the pendant stem have silver touch marksThe front cover has a small glass in the middle and black Roman numerals around it, so you can see the time without the need to open the front cover, The pendant is at 3 oclock position and the hinges are at 9 oclock position and A. Dennison The solid silver case is hallmarked for Birmingham 1931, with the capital letter G. Inside the back cover it is numbered 611523 and has the case makers initials A. All those hallmarks, number and the makers initials are present inside the front cover and the dust cover as well. Inside the dust cover is inscribed Made in England. The case is in excellent condition, with no damage. There are few superficial scratches and tiny dents on the back cove. Hinges are in very good order; catches working well and the front cover spring works perfectly so when the stem on the top of the pendant is depressed the front cover flips crisply open to 90 degrees. Inside the front & back covers are minute inscriptions that are barely visible – these are the dates when this watch was serviced. Beautiful gilded brass high-grade 15 jewels movement. It has a lever escapement wheel with ruby endstone balance wheel. The movement is signed J. Benson, Swiss Made, 15 jewels. The mechanical condition is excellent. The movement is in excellent working order. The watch measures 2 approx. D into a chamfered rectangle. A L Dennison: Aaron Lufkin Dennison. Meanwhile he moved to England where he commenced the manufacture of watch cases with premises in Handsworth, Birmingham. The business was known as Dennison, Wigley & Co. He died in 1895 and the business was continued under the same style until 1905. Franklin Dennison cointinued the business as The Dennison Watch Case Co and in 1919 the business was converted into a limited liability company. Some marking and wear commensurate with the age, but otherwise in excellent condition. This watch does not have the original box.
