Sterling Silver 3 Piece Tea Set, Williams Ltd, Birmingham, 1911. Weight approx 1040g gross (includes teapot handle and finial) and a viable usable tea set. Rectangular plain bases rising through bulbous sides to outward rolled lip decorated with a repeating pattern of rectangular mounds separated by impressed dashes. Closest similar look is gadrooning. The creamer and sugar bowl have handles shaped in a Neo-grecian angular style found in some of the arts and crafts silver styles. The bodies of the pieces are more typical of the period. The tea pot has a handle that appears to be wood, to judge by the grain but this effect could also be created with composites. The rectangular finial appears to be a black composite. Some soft and a few pinprick dents on sides of sugar and the teapot. Very minor ones on the creamer jug. They’re too small to depict properly on photos due to the nature of silver photos. Some dots/pitting and small scratches on the sides of all. I would classify them as normal for a well used piece but some people would have them professionally polished if they wanted them in museum condition. The teapot has joint lines to two corners joints where the piece was originally soldered/made. Small dent/scratch 5mm to lid of pot and a two small oxidisation spots to same. The top rims (The patterned or gadrooned ones) are all in good shape. Slight lift to the corner foot of the sugar bowl. It looks as if this was there from manufacture. Slight play to pot handle. Slight play on pot lid hinge. The handle of the teapot and one handle of the sugar bowl show slight inward depression into the bowls. Bases of all are even with no rocking. Slight outward bulge to the base of the creamer. No visible signs of repairs or solder. Overall, the set presents well as the observed faults are mostly visually quite small or not visible due to their position under or inside the pieces.
