Antique VICTORIAN Solid SILVER Mourning LOCKET Brooch Prince of Wales Hair Curl. A visually stunning, rare, 19th century solid silver mourning locket brooch. The silver is unmarked as was often the case during the period; however it has been professionally jeweller tested. As a long time collector of period mourning jewellery, I had never seen a brooch like this before. It has been exquisitely made by a skilled Victorian silversmith, showing all the’pomp and circumstance’ of an important mourning piece. One is sufficiently impressed with the hugely elaborate front decor; it is then even more captivating to see the mourning locket back. Laid on a ribbed cream silk interior is a beautifully set Prince of Wales hair curl, complete with seed pearls and gold wiring. All immaculate with original glass. The silver tube hinge, pin and’c’ catch are all original and in good working order. Measurements: 1.9″ by 1.5″. In good antique condition; please see all photographs (which can be supersized). Left uncleaned as preferred by many buyers. Box shown in photos is for display ONLY and is NOT included in the sale. Please remember that due to your computer’s screen settings, in real life the item may not match the colour you see here. My photos are NEVER to scale so please check the actual measurements below. Here I have an antique Victorian solid silver locket pendant. It’s beautifully engraved with a different design on the front and back, known as a day and night locket; the front is of “summer” with a spray of forget-me-nows and foliage amongst a scalloped border, the back is “winter” with ivy leaves and an empty cartouche in the centre for the engraving of initials. Even the edge of the locket is engraved with a chevron design. Inside, there’s space for 2 photos behind removable silver frames. As with many antique pieces, it’s unmarked but tests as solid silver. The main body of the locket (without the bale at the top) measures 4.3cm high and 3.5cm wide. With the ring at the top, it’s total length is 5.7cm. It weighs 14.5 grams. Condition: Very good uncleaned antique condition. No dinks or damage. The hinge and closure work perfectly and it clicks shut nicely. Just has the usual surface marks and tarnish to the silver which you’d expect on an antique item. International buyers PLEASE READ. Lovely Victorian silver collar and cross. The collar is unhallmarked but tests as silver. The collars total length is approximately 18.5 inches. It is decorated in one side and plain to the reverse. The cross is 2 1/4 inches tall excluding hanging loop. It is decorated in one side and on the reverse has been inscribed from Geo. J Lockyer to MaryAnne Collman Xmas 1886 This inscription now obscures the original hallmarks which I can’t make out. The total weight of the collar and cross is 41 Grams. There are a couple of minor scratches and tings here and there but nothing serious and mentioned purely for accuracy. Any questions please ask.
