You are viewing a very rare Bryan July 1896, 776 1/3 Grains of silver 900/1000 fine. The equilalent of one ounce of gold in 1896. This token or medallion is an o. Riginal made in 1896. TIFFANY & CO in 7 1/2 mm letters on the edge near 6 o’clock. This coin is the first production as they were restrikes The Tiffany & Co is at 6 oclock. The front has a engraved signature of Andrew Wallace with a date of Oct 1896. Father of Governors David Wallace and William Henson Wallace. Grandfather of Ben Hur author and Civil War General Lew Wallace. Andrew Wallace married Elenor Wallace Jones in 1798 in Pennsylvania. His wife Eleanor was reputed to be a family relation of Revolutionary War Hero John Paul Jones. This seems very unlikely given his fairly well documented immediate family and the lack of a wife or children mentioned in John Paul Jones’ will. Andrew Wallace was reputed to be a close friend of President William Henry Harrison. 1896 Bryan Dollar, Tiffany & Co. S-1 is part of the educational design. The uniface design consists of legends that compare the bullion value of a Federal gold dollar with its much larger silver equivalent. Rare originals made in 1896 exhibit TIFFANY & CO in 7 1/2 mm letters on the edge near 6 o’clock. Some 1910 restrikes, made by the same firm at later dates.
